Summer Upgrades

Postby bikeman123 » Mon Oct 06, 2014 2:25 pm

Has there been any official release about summer work going on at the mountain? Yesterday there was new water pipe all over the place at the top of the Rangeley and some bizarro rock removal happening on Tri Color. Also, I shed a tear for the bulldozed tree island at the intersection of Jitterbug and America. I always loved the groomed part skiers left and bumps to the right. With the sizable increase in ticket prices, I would expect some kind of public partial justification.

Congrats on the new glade work. That's always exciting!

Haven't heard anything official. It will be interesting to see how the significant increase in ticket prices impact day traffic.

I can see why they bulldozed the tree island. That place was a wreck on busy days with newbies trying to navigate their way down. As say it is a good call as there needs to be more way for greenhorns to make it down the mountain safely from the top of the Rangeley IMHO.

We will be sending out this information in a few days via a press release and newsletter. But thought some might not want to wait any longer

Intermediate to Expert- Hand Cut glades by skiers and not loggers is currently being done off of the Red Devil Trail name to be decided shortly

Improved key trails at key points to seriously reduce long term snowmaking costs and allow the trails to be ready sooner:

1. Improved The Pass, by placing snowmaking pipes below grades at Royal Coachman and Peachey’s Peril which will require less snow volume (water) to open the pass and increase energy efficiency.
2. Improved the top pitch of Red Devil to level the trail all the way across the top pitch, to improve energy efficiency for snowmaking and grooming, again to reduce water needs for snowmaking costs. Easier access to red devil and the new glade by reconfiguring the top flat area above the top pitch of red devil and expanding the skiers right. In doing this we have maintained the same pitch of red devil while making it safer for skiers.
3. Reshaped Upper Hudson Highway, to improve energy efficiency in snowmaking and grooming
4. Improved line of sight and improved skier and rider safety at major intersections on the Pass and other key areas on the mountain
5. Major improvements to two key trails Green Weaver (access to Kennebago Quad) and Tricolor (key trail off the summit) to improve snowmaking and grooming on these often used trails as well as allowing the trails to be ready earlier in the season with less energy.

Equipment:

Purchased HKD low energy stick guns this fall to improve snowmaking and get the summit open earlier in the season.

So have you received subsidies for the energy efficiency improvements so prominently mentioned in your 5 bullet points. I don't keep up with newspapers.
Kudos for all the progress.

Thank you, We have made application with Efficiency Maine for some assistance with the Equipment however the remaining cost and all of the Trail Work was funded by the Berry Family. We hope these improvements will allow us to open more terrain sooner
